okayxairen's News

As of 5 minutes ago, I've ragequit a game of Sonic Frontiers after 2 hours of playtime due to the difficulty of a boss. To be fair, it's been a while since I've played a Sonic game, and as far as I can tell the options they give you to adjust the speed are actually incredibly accessible.

Anyway, with that somewhat loaded first paragraph aside, I want to talk about how I actually feel about this game. My save file is currently sitting at 1:53:19, and my opinions are.. optimistic but mixed.

To start, I'm playing the game on Switch, so I was expecting quite a few frame drops along the way, and they did NOT hesitate to show themselves once the first area of the game loaded in. However, the game actually smoothed out quite nicely over my play session, to a point where the frame drops themselves were pretty unnoticable.

The story hasn't really done a lot thus far (I've only beaten 2 of the Cyber Space stages, the rest has just been exploring) but I'm optimistic considering it's written by Ian Flynn, who plays a heavy hand in the comics (which I love). Characters seem pretty true to form, just a bit less exaggerated considering the tone of the game. Roger Craig Smith's new Sonic voice caught me off guard at first, but I found it a lot more pleasant in the long run.

The combat was kind of a turn-off initially, but I quickly grew to love it. Not to mention the skill trees and extra combo moves you can do, it feels SUPER gratifying and fun in the end. The enemy mechanics can be a bit annoying, but you eventually figure out what they all do and can deal with them pretty easily.

The enviroment of this game is also super nice. It does feel a bit empty sometimes (definitely not as hand-crafted as BOTW feels) but there's always something fun to do and messing around with Sonic's movement in new areas is always enjoyable.

Now onto the negative. I don't really have a lot to say besides what I've already mentioned above, but I will say that the controls are definitely a bit slippery here and there. It feels like when I fall off an edge that there's no possible way to salvage my progress without dying or restarting from the bottom. (Think BOTW's climbing mechanic) Boss mechanics also tend to be a bit tedious (In particular "SQUID", who is the cause of the aforementioned ragequit)

The Cyber Space stages are the biggest negative so far for sure. They all feel incredibly short and clunky, like the freedom I had in the Open Zone just becomes super formulaic and slippery. I've only done a couple as of the time of this writing, so maybe I'll warm up to it.

All-in-all, Sonic Frontiers is a lot of fun so far. I haven't even accomplished much of the story yet, but the game has remained thoroughly engaging during my entire 2 hour playtime. Learning new mechanics and leveling Sonic up feels properly rewarding and all the characters are well written and true to form.

So far, Sonic Frontiers is a solid 7/10! It's definitely possible to go higher, and maybe I'll release a more in depth review once I've actually beaten the game. Thank you for reading :)

TLDR: The game is fun with some small issues, 7/10.

I think everyone can collectively agree that Twitter is very quickly becoming awful and unviable.

Unless you're an Elon dickrider who's just attempting to profit off of his billions (seriously, all Elon stans share his ego problem), anyone with a brain can see that Elon Musk is a manchild with a massive ego that is willing to make desicions with massive ramifications assuming it'll hurt no one. Within a week this man has contradicted himself again and again, mostly including his rules about parody accounts, and I can guarantee you that it's not for the good of the platform, but for the good of Elon's growing ego.

He doesn't know how to commit, or quit. He's invested in an unprofitable company that's losing MILLIONS every day and is rapidly scrambling to turn it profitable with shitty memes and acting like none of the criticism gets to him. I'm waiting for the day we see a messy all caps breakdown from the "CEO of Twitter", a position that's quickly become a joke.

Twitter verification, a system designed to highlight real public figures over impersonators, has gone from a feature to a commodity. Paying a subscription for Twitter is maybe the dumbest fucking thing someone could ever do (Unless youre trashing on Elon, then its funny..?)

Spend your money on something worthwhile, like.. becoming a Newgrounds supporter! This website is lovingly maintained and crafted by so many wonderful individuals, and keeping the site ad free and user friendly is not an easy task.

This is just highlighting a little thought thread I had about Twitter recently. The site is quickly becoming something I want to take less and less a part of, and I'm looking for new avenues..

In a completely unrelated note, Hi Newgrounds! How are yall? May start posting more of these mind dumps here and there occasionally. They'll probably not be as downtrodden as this one, just something I had to get off my chest.

TLDR: Fuck Twitter. Fuck Elon.

My departure from Soundcloud was kind of a weird one for sure, but as of 5 minutes ago I've uploaded my final track and have fully moved here. I just want to say thank you for the support, and expect more in the future. I'm fully grateful to be apart of this community.

Soundcloud fucking sucks.

I've felt this way for a long time, but I've never really known a greater alternative for audio hosting.

So, I put up with it's shitty streaming quality and 16$ A MONTH subscription for no ads and unlimited uploads, not to mention every song is constantly botted with shitty record labels in the comments looking to profit off young artists who don't know any better.

Recently, my subscription ran out. And I made a decision.

From now on, I'll be uploading my music exclusively on Newgrounds (and possibly a couple other places). Soundcloud has officially pissed me off for the last time, and I'd be much happier on a much more user friendly and lively site.

All that to say I've returned here (for now) and intend to stay. I hope you enjoy my music.

Note: I will be reuploading a couple things from soundcloud here. Not everything, but this account may very frequently post for a while.

(UPDATE: Currently closed as I have a miriad of projects I've been involved with.)

Another bit of fun news here! I am completely open for hire/involvement with projects/music commissions for free!! (unless i get involved in a project that starts making a lotta revenue) I really love making music and tend to do better whenever I'm actually creating it for something, so if you need video game style music for your project (or even other types, I enjoy making all kinds of music) go ahead and hit me up! You can also contact me at naturallytrash2@gmail.com

Keep in mind that I am offering this for free, I'm also only 16 years old and currently still doing school from my computer, so if things take a little while to get done, it's simply because I have other life stuff going on. However, making music is literally my favorite pastime, and I hope I can deliver with a quality that you expect!

You can find my portfolio of music through Newgrounds and at https://soundcloud.com/okayxairen/tracks and https://soundcloud.com/0kXairen
